Diptychs (2019)
Each month’s parcel that year contained a matched pair of images — a diptych — built around a single, lovely, intimate theme: lips, nails, shoes, ties, and other small, telling details that say more about a person than a full-length portrait might. The left-hand image tended toward the considered and composed; the right, something looser and more candid. Held side by side, the pairing did most of the storytelling on its own.
This was the series, incidentally, that planted the seed for what became Object Portraits two years later — the composed, left-hand half of each diptych was an early ancestor of those later object compositions.
