Photography
For the better part of a decade, alongside hosting the Social Club, I sent members a new photographic series every year — twelve parts to a series, one arriving each month. Some years I worked entirely alone; others were collaborations or guest works by accomplished artists. What follows are the major series, gathered here with a closer look at each.
-
Object Portraits (2021)
Personally meaningful objects, gathered from members and composed into elegant portraits of the people behind them. The series that closed out the monthly mailing — documented here part by part.
-
Knolled Trays
The playful, tightly-composed flat-lay studies — objects arranged edge to edge on a tray — that grew out of early quarantine experiments and seeded the Object Portraits that followed.
-
Manuals
The club’s hand-produced Manuals of Service, treated here as objects in their own right — small, deliberate, and a little bit obsessive.
-
Divination (2020)
Twelve photographs exploring traditions of foretelling the future — chiromancy, tasseography, palmistry, scrying, and more.
-
Diptychs (2019)
Matched pairs of images, one per parcel, themed on intimate topics such as lips, nails, shoes, and ties.
