Shave

July’s ritual began with the instruments of a proper shave — twin badger brushes, a hand mirror, blades and styptic pencil laid out beside a small plate of blackberries, because even grooming deserves a garnish.

The shave itself was a small production, mirror held just so, razor poised, an audience gathered close enough to advise or admire, whichever was needed.
