An Object Portrait of Ms. Bablo
Some NYC treasures that evoke my favorite (and most missed) experiences before the pandemic:
- Matte Orange Lipstick · manicured fingernails, short swingy dresses, and freckled skin.
- Sid Gold’s Matchbook · dirty martinis, laughing in a crowded bar, and joyful cab rides home.
- Dusty Rose Perfume · my favorite neighborhood vintage shop, and browsing colorful knick-knacks.
- Seashells · Rockaway Beach early morning, salt water, sunscreen and surfboards, wine in a can.
I adore cobalt and scarlet; they both make me feel creative, powerful, and sexy. These objects are part of my rituals or appearance whenever I want to channel those vibes:
- Cobalt Blue Candles · hot baths, epsom salts, and moon rituals.
- Gold and Lapis Ring · pink suit blazers and client presentations.
- Blue Acrylic Bangle · sketching and brainstorming.
- Red Lingerie Set (by Lonely) · snow, fresh flowers, white wine, and my valentine.
Three cherished articles that remind me of home, but also of growing up:
- My bobby pins live in a vintage Avon “Precious Owl”; the scent of face cream has never gone away.
- Pressed penny talismans delight me, and a few always end up tucked in each wallet or purse.
- Zsa Zsa will forever be the epitome of glamour and humor for me, and entirely the source of my marabou feather obsession; this book was a college graduation gift, with a smile-inducing inscription.
