Molybdomancy

Molybdomancy is read in metal: molten lead or tin, poured into cold water, seizes instantly into whatever shape the plunge gives it, and that shape — a bird, a boat, a knot — becomes the omen.

Two sets of hands work the trick together here, timer running, the spent shot already cooling in its pan while the bowl of water waits for the next pour.
